Almost 100 participants mingled and networked and enjoyed Christmas drink and food specialties from the three countries.

September 22, 2010 - ColumbusOpening of new Nordic Light warehouse and assembly facilityThe opening of the new Nordic Light US assembly and distribution center was a great success. Did you know that 80 % of our decisions are based on what we see. Seeing is interplay between the eye, the object viewed and light. The latter decides how we perceive the object in view. Lighting controls the visual impression. It is a bold, but true, statement. So, in order to achieve a desired atmosphere, knowing how to use lights and lighting is alpha and omega. Even with small means, the effect can be great – remember, it only takes a flashlight to create a monster. One of our newer Business Members, the Swedish company Nordic Light (www.nordiclight.se), designs, manufactures and markets a complete range of high-performance, energy-efficient display lighting fixtures. Together with their local partner - also SACC-Ohio member - D+S Distribution (www.dsdistribution.com), they are now setting up an assembly and distribution center in the Columbus area. SACC-Ohio will have the sopportunity to participate at the grand opening on September 22. August 28, 2010 – Traditional Swedish Crayfish Party

March 04, 2010: “Reduce the Emissions and Grow the Economy at the Same Time, Environmental and Economic Sustainability - Bringing the Swedish Model to Ohio”According to the Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt: Since 1993 Sweden's economy has grown over 40% and at the same time the carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by at least 10%.

Carlson, Vice President and Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland will give us a direct insight into how the Federal Reserve is handling the current financial situation. The meeting will be held at the Capitol Club in downtown Columbus, starting at 11:45am. Please click here for more information and how to RSVP. We thank our Sponsoring Member At the Annual Meeting, SACC-Ohio reported four successful years of operation and continued growth in membership and activities. Members include major Ohio corporations, smaller and mid-size businesses, organizations and individuals. The Treasurer Kenneth Palmman presented a solid financial report for the year 2009. The earlier nine Board Members were unanimously re-elected with some changes in functions. Chairman (new) is Matias Bonnier, Vice Chairman (new) Bo Carlsson, President Lars Eriksson, Secretary Lars Traner, Treasurer Kenneth Palmman. The Chairman of SACC-USA, Urban Lundberg, honored us with his presence and he held a very stimulating speech presenting numerous channels into the Swedish market that SACC members have available to them. He also discussed the great importance of the type of person-to-person networking that SACC offers in a world saturated in electronic communication systems.

After the meal John B. Carlson, VP at the Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland, gave us a very initiated and interesting insight into how the Fed is handling the current financial situation. At his presentation last year the topic was "Reflections on the Financial Turmoil and the Economy". This time it was changed to the very appropriate "Financial and Economic Recovery: The Need for an Exit Strategy". We learned that the Fed now has several new instruments to improve the control of the banking system and to avoid the risk of inflation once the economy picks up more substantially. All in all, John was confident that the US should be able to come out of the present financial situation in a positive way. His presentation was very appreciated and was followed by a long Q&A session. Click here to see some of John's slides from the presentation. Here are some photos from the event:

You are invited to attend the opening night of the exhibition.17 SWEDISH DESIGNERSFriday, November 6, 2009, 6:30—8:30pm Reinberger Galleries of The Cleveland Institute of Art The U.S. debut of this traveling exhibition straight from Sweden: 17 Swedish women, all professional designers, all born in the 1960s display work in glass, ceramics, textiles, metal, wood and plastic. Celebration of the official Leif Erikson Day
Over 60 Scandinavians and friends met at the Shooters restaurant in the Flats to celebrate the fact that Leif Erikson was the first to discover North America — almost 500 years before Columbus thought he had arrived in India. A special toast was held to the great Scandinavian Viking explorer in front of the Leif Erikson Monument at the base of the old swing railroad bridge outside the entrance to Shooters. Ingemar Svala, our own Professional Photographer (website http://ingemarsvalaphotography.com) took many photos at the event. Click here to view web album! Why does it matter now? Well, some modern day claims are outrageous. Of course the Native Americans were here first. But who traveled to America first? It may well have been the Chinese (although they apparently did not want to keep their records available for later generations). We know for a fact that is was not Columbus. The case is made for Leif Erikson’s exploration around 1000 AD. See attached “Who Really Discovered America” — an amusing read. It was natural for Leif to explore. He did tell others of what he found but his “marketing” was poor. It was also natural for the Chinese to travel far and wide but they apparently did not preserve their records well for future generations. Still, the Chinese probably traveled to the American continent before Leif. Columbus discovery is much disputed. See e.g. http://yeefow.com/past/499.html. Leif was the first European while a Chinese explorer likely was the first Asian. Advanced Solar Energy Technology and its Economic Impact
Neil Sater, CEO of the local “green tech” company Greenfield Solar talked about solar energy in general and his companies special technology in particular. At GreenField, the goal is to drive solar energy into mainstream adoption through lower costs, without subsidies. They have developed a radically different approach to solar energy, using high intensity concentration. This technology was developed to be highly scalable, allowing for rapid increase in production, at low cost. Click here to view the slide show from Neil’s presentation. Solar power holds the promise of delivering clean energy to meet the world’s growing demand. Lower costs and scalable production are the keys to delivering on this promise. The future is now, and GreenField http://greenfieldsolar.com is proud to usher in a new era in solar energy. Neil’s interesting presentation was followed by a long Q&A session and continued discussions while cocktails and hors d’œuvres were served. Traditional Swedish Crayfish Party

Swedish-American Entrepreneurial Days in Savannah
The Edays in Savannah gathered around 300 participants from Sweden and the United States. Click here for more information on this event. SACC-Ohio went underground - and it really wasn't boring at all
Recently, around 40 members and guests had an opportunity to visit The Robbins Company in Cleveland (www.robbinstbm.com), one of only two worldwide manufacturers of big tunnel boring machines or TBM's. Such TBM's have for instance bored the tunnel under the English Channel and the new railroad tunnel under Malmö. Robbins is specialized in hard rock boring which actually is less expensive than the older blasting techniques. In these recession times it was good to hear that Robbins expects a continued increase in sales in 2009. ![]() Thursday, February 5, 2009 See the Columbus Blue Jackets NHL team practice and tour the Nationwide Arena.
